What Fans Say

We just came back from Peru and completed the classic four day Inca Trail trek with ‘Guiding Peru’. After doing some research back in May (which is what you are probably doing now), I had entered a question on their website and, unexpectedly, received a phone call from John about five minutes later with the answer to my query. What?? Prompt customer service??!! Who has had that regularly in their life in the last 10 years?? About five minutes after that we booked a group of four and then added a fifth a couple of days later and then a sixth a couple of days after that. EACH TIME, the transaction was completed within minutes and without any hassle. After booking, and in the months leading up to the trek, we posed a few questions and, again, the customer support from John was fast and accurate.

Once up in Cusco to acclimatize and after the pre-trek briefing things got underway. Brayan was our lead guide (and walking encyclopedia of all things Inca) and Amerigo trailed our group of 10 and made sure everyone completed each portion of the trail safely with his words of encouragement, humor and good conversation.

Our chef, ‘William Wallace’ 😉 and his assistant provided us with four-star restaurant-quality food the entire time. Every single meal out-did the previous one. It got to the point where we couldn’t express ourselves as to what these chefs were able to provide to us, in extreme abundance, in the highlands of Peru. For an example, for lunch on the third day, each dish came with carved fruit and vegetables representing the animals we had seen along the trail. And the desserts!! Oye!

We also had a combination of omnivores, vegetarians and one vegan in our group – each person was catered to their exact specifications.

Each day, our camp was pre-set up with four man tents (sleeping two), thick therma-rests, mummy sleeping bags along with pillows and blankets for extra comfort. Warm water for washing, refreshing drinks ready for the end of the day, cocoa tea delivered to the tent in the morning (and anytime you wanted it) to help with hydration and altitude if needed. All this was done by a group of porters who had done this a time or two. A very experienced group and well-oiled machine.

One final note – over the four days, one couldn’t help looking over at the other groups of trekkers, observing and even chatting with along the trail. From groups of 2 to what looked like other groups of 30+ people, I don’t think I found any group that was as well looked after as our group.

You can stop looking now – go ahead and book with Guiding Peru.

Regarding the 8-Day Ancascocha with Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu

This tour was unforgettable, no words to describe it.

If you have the time do to it and you are good fit it is a must do! The tour operator is ‘Guiding Peru’. We had a good tour briefing with William (guide) the night before the departure. The scenery and flora changes dramatically each day of the tour and it is always breathtaking. i will not describe every day on the tour, you have to see and experience Peru by yourself. Our guide, William was amazing, he really make the difference, he knows all about the flora, fauna, history and custom of Peru and Inca. He answers all our questions and he was so passionate about Inca history, thanks to him we learnt so much. He was also very good organizing the time of rest/meal during the hike, he was constantly making sure that we were well, not pushing too hard which is where altitude sickness gets you and having a good time. We used SOROCHE pills, and my advice is buy them at Cusco pharmacy. You need 2 pills per day (morning/evening). They cost 1$ US per pill.

About the hiking, be prepare to see full beauty of the Andes. One side high mountain on the way down the jungle. I personally prefer the high mountains.

The food was amazing during all the trip thanks to cook Iguidio. He can work in any restaurant – full recommendation . Mullers, Eusebio and Valentin are amazing. So friendly, so nice, and I so glad I had a chance to meet them all.

We were getting hot coca tea for freshening up in the morning and before meals.

You only need to bring water for the first day, after that they will boil water and give it to you.
It gets cold, bring warm clothes. Walking sticks, sleeping bags, actually all you need was provided by the company. All of this s was CLEAN, so no worries about strange smell :-).

Tips is not mandatory, but after all what the guide, cook, and mullers did for as, I must say, they deserve all. They do not share tips, so you will need to prepare separate tips amounts, one for the cook and one for the mullers. Do not forget guide!! 🙂
Again, thank you John for all. I am coming back with my younger son.

Regarding the 4-Day Salkantay Multi-sport tour to Machu Picchu

This has been a once in a lifetime experience and the best trip of my life. Our guide Pepe was outstanding. He was always happy, laughing, and ready to help. We had six of us in our group so he definitely had his hands full. The food was absolutely amazing. My favorite was the soups and the savici. The first day was the sakatay trek which was one of the hardest things I have done but luckily we had a great guide to get me though it. The next day we biked down the mountain which was a blast. We ate lunch then went to the ziplines which was crazy awesome. Such a cool way to see Peru and I got some really neat go pro footage. The next day we went white water rafting which again was awesome. The water was definitely freezing but it made it even more exhilarating. Of course we ended the trip with Machu Pichu. It was beautiful and having Pepe their to show us around was awesome. I can not brag enough on this company and out guide. I would recommend it to anybody.

Regarding the 8-Day Deluxe Inca Trail Package with Manu Rain-forest extension

Our visit to Peru specifically Cusco, Scared Valley, Inca Trail, Machu Picchu and the Manu Rain Forest arranged by Guiding Peru was an absolute pleasure and one to be remembered forever! John did a fantastic job ensuring we were well prepared for the adventure and he was always very responsive to the many questions we had for him. Upon arrival in Peru, a new country for both of us, we were very warmly greeted by Rueben and Marco which made us feel at home from the get-go. The initial two days in Cusco, in addition to the altitude acclimation, really set the stage for the upcoming trek. The walks around the city and nearby parks were well planned and Brayan has an excellent grasp of the history of the region along with an engaging style that allowed the key points to stick. The foundation was now set for the next 6 days and the story unfolded before our very eyes….one incredible day at a time. The most impressive and unexpected constituent of the trek were our porters! These individuals were the fundamental underpinning of our successful journey. They were always ready, helpful, positive, motivating…….there is nothing like a smile on an individuals face, that you know is working to their extreme limits, to make you want to go another day…..truly amazing! The food was another magical experience, how it was pulled off , I do not know…..but Chef William Wallace and Marco, his very capable assistant chef, created works of art both gastronomically and visually….wow! And finally the Leaders of the team and of our daily treks, Brayan and Rueben, always calm, keeping us safe, on track, on time and happy with laughter…..we could not have asked for better leadership…thank you !!
The arrival at the Sun Gate of Machu Picchu at sunrise capped the experience. We were the first full group at the Gate….not bad for a few of us 60 year olds…..rest of the group much younger of course….and the day exploring was awesome.
We were fortunate enough to have signed up for the additional 4 day excursion to the Cloud Forest and Manu Park experience. Our trip continued with Brayan, Rueben, Marco, and Celia…..the great experience continued. Awesome leadership, great preparation, outstanding food, a new adventure at every turn and….the contrast from 14000 ft. peaks to jungle canopy was what brought it all together….two worlds, one civilization, new friendships, and lots of fun. We’ll be back!

Regarding the 6-Day Real Inca Jungle Multi-sport tour to Machu Picchu

I chose to book my trip with Guiding Peru because they offered multisport trips no other company did. Also, their website was so detailed that it answered every question I had, while other competitors did not.
The Pongo multisport trip allowed us to see both the high Andes and Machu Picchu as well as the deep amazon jungle. We did not see a single tourist for the first half of the trip and the trek into the Amazon by boat really is an unforgettable and breathtaking experience. Our guide ensured that we were on the first bus to Machu Picchu and we were able to tour the ancient city before it filled with visitors. This trip is for folks who like to get off the beaten path and really see Peru in a way many people don’t get to.
Our guides Reuben, Marco and Celia were great. They took care of everything. I enjoyed the conversation and learning about their country. I liked the food and think the meals were well rounded. The hotels were clean and accommodating. Good team. I’d book with them again.
