Machu Picchu Multi-Sport Tour Package Details
Guiding Peru’s Machu Picchu Multi-Sport Tour package is designed to offer tourists, visitors and guests a “trip of a lifetime”. This tour package incorporates an active schedule of cycling and trekking while touring the many wonders of Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and the Inca Trail leading into Machu Picchu. On our guided Machu Picchu Multi-Sport Tour, you will get a chance to embrace nature, learn and experience the cultures of pre-Inca and Inca civilizations while hiking, cycling, and camping on the scenic trails(which are rarely used by locals or other tourists). Our tour guides were born and raised here and many continue to live in the communities, which helps you enjoy reliable assistance and guarantees you an authentic Peruvian experience.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO CUSCO PERU
Meals: Welcome Reception
On the first day of your Machu Picchu Multi-Sport Tour, you will be greeted by a Guiding Peru representative at the Cusco airport and enjoy a private van transfer to the 4* Hilton Hotel in Cusco. While you rest and acclimatize, the team of Guiding Peru will finalize preparations for your upcoming week’s experience. In the late afternoon, your guide will meet you at the hotel to take you on a private walking tour of the wonderful Cusco Inca Museum. After returning to the hotel you will enjoy an evening reception in the courtyard, which will be followed by an itinerary briefing from your guide.
DAY 2: WALKING CITY TOUR – QENQO – SACSAYHUAMAN PARK
Meals: Breakfast and gourmet buffet picnic lunch
Hiking distance: 5km/easy
On the second day of your Machu Picchu Multi-Sport Tour, we will meet you at your hotel lobby at 8:30 am to begin an exciting tour. From the hotel, we will head to Cusco’s Plaza de Armas to walk up and around, the most traditional and ancient Inca-built streets of the city and visit the Saint Christopher Church to enjoy one of the best views of the city. We then walk down to San Blas Incan urbanization to visit the first church built in Cusco and view one of the finest pulpits in South America (which is carved in cedar wood). After touring this sacred church, we continue on foot to explore the temple of the Sun, Qoricancha. Qoricancha is the best place to observe the clash between Inca culture and Catholicism and discover their many differences in building methods. From Qoricancha, your tour guide will lead the walk through two city blocks, to the Cathedral, which is located on the main plaza of Cusco city. Guiding Peru’s guide will tell you about the Andean art located here, which includes the choir and the Andean last supper. The morning tour will end around 12:00 pm. We will then drive you up the hill to Sacsayhuaman Park to enjoy a gourmet buffet picnic lunch in the schoolyard of Fortaleza Salkantay. Here you will share time together with the children of the school while participating in a few volunteer activities. After having a delicious meal, we start hiking down an ancient Inca trail to the Sacsayhuaman archaeological site. Here, your guide will lead you through a 1.5 hour the tour giving in-depth information about Incan history, walking around the whole site. After a memorable tour, you will go back to the hotel, by 4:30 pm. The evening will be all yours. Your guide can recommend some fine restaurant for dinner, overlooking the Plaza de Armas Square in Cusco.
DAY 3: CYCLING AND HIKING THE SOUTH VALLEY OF CUSCO – PATABAMBA -TIPON INCAN SITE – HUACARPAY LAKE
Accommodation: Deluxe camping
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks
Hiking distance: 3km/easy
Cycling distance: 15km/moderate
On the third day of the Machu Picchu Multi-Sport Tour, your pick-up time from the hotel will be 7:00 am. From here we will start driving to the south of Cusco City for 45 minutes to reach the community of Patabamba. This is the place where your guide will lead the walking tour through the magnificent, seldom visited, Tipon Inca Archaeological Park, which takes 1.5 hours. On the guided Machu Picchu Multi-Sport Tour, you will learn about the Incas and their relationship to the Sacred Valley. To indulge in an exhilarating cycling activity, we will then ride our bikes downhill for 15 minutes on a paved road then take a dirt back-road for 1 hour on a Peruvian flat path, through little villages, to reach Huacarpay Lake. Here you can enjoy a relaxing break and get a nice view of the lake. Prior to arriving into Piquillaqta, the next part of our ride, is up-hill, along with a paved road, that will prove to be a little harder but exciting. If you want, you then can decide to continue cycling towards the archaeological site or jump into our support van. After an informative tour of Piquillaqta, you will be driven to the amazing location of “Señor de Huanca” temple and mountain for lunch. On some special days, there is a possibility of witnessing local people following the Catholic calendar, asking for wishes and blessings. Your picnic will be in a location where you will get a fantastic view of the Urubamba River and valley. After an energizing lunch, we ride the bikes again downhill, along a dirt back-road, for 15 minutes. We then ride on a gradual path along the Urubamba River to view the great scenery for about 45 minutes until we arrive at Pillahuara community. The Pillahuara is our home village and the village of many of the people that work for GUIDING PERU, where you will receive a warm welcome and spend some time with us in our homes. We arrive here at 4:00 pm and enjoy our connection to the community by staying with a local family, doing what they do, eating what they eat, living how they live, and experiencing a special surprise. Our local shaman will visit with us to educate us on practicing and sharing his amazing knowledge about the reciprocity to nature. Your dinner will be at 7:30 pm at our camp for tonight’s tents that are located in the yard of the family.
DAY 4: CHALLENGE DAY, HIKING THE SUMMIT OF COTAKI MOUNTAIN
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks
Hiking distance: 8km/challenging up-hill
On the fourth day of your Machu Picchu Multi-Sport Tour, you need to wake up around 6:00 am to enjoy a hot breakfast by the local family with whom we spent last night. Then, we start the hike around 7:30 am and begin to climb the first half of Cotaki Mountain for 4 hours to reach a great viewpoint of the Sacred Valley and the Urubamba River. Here you will enjoy a picnic lunch carried by our porters, after which, we continue to climb up the mountain for another 3.5 hours until we reach its summit and the mountain pass to Cotaki village. After arriving at Cotataki, the rest of our staff will be waiting to welcome us to a new community and it’s people. Having a good rest and some refreshing drinks, you can enjoy a soccer game with the children of the community (if you have some extra energy). This night we will sleep in tents and settle in for dinner at our campsite, which is well deserved after a challenging day. Your guide will discuss with you today’s trails, the pre-Incan and Inca civilizations. This will help you understand their importance of the history and culture of the Sacred Valley.
DAY 5: TOUR CYCLING, CHINCHERO, MORAY, MARAS SALT PANS, OLLANTAYTAMBO
Cycling Distance: 29 km/moderate
Accommodation: Casa Andina Hotel, Urubamba

On the sixth day of your Machu Picchu Multi-Sport Tour, you need to wake up at 6:00 am to take our van at 7:00 am. This will lead you to the mountains of Cimatauka village located at 3600m, where at about 9:00 am we start cycling down along a dirt road for about 25 minutes. After which, we will go up and down for 2 hours 45 minutes on the same dirt road to the lakes Piuray at Chinchero village and Huaypo Lake at Cruz Pata village. At this site, you will get an outstanding view of snow-capped mountains and enjoy an amazing buffet lunch made by our professional chef near the lake. After a luxury picnic, you will be driven through the highlands to Salineras of Maras Salt Pans, which is a mine of salt and considered to be extremely important for Maras community. It provides pink salt today and rated as one of only 3 places around the world that have pink salt. Here, over 5000 salt pools can be found, which act as evaporation chambers for the salty spring water. The spills out of the mountain and down the mountainside offer an amazing view of a moon-like landscape. After this, we continue by bus for one hour to reach Ollantaytambo, which is considered the only living museum protected by UNESCO. Ollantaytambo is the best example of an intact Inca village that has impressive architecture surrounded by temples, fortresses, granaries and houses. It is full of waterways running through the quaint streets of the town. Before settling into our Sacred Valley hotel, tonight we will enjoy a delicious dinner in Urubamba.
DAY 6: OLLANTAYTAMBO – INCA TRAIL KM 104 – MACHU PICCHU

We then climb 370 steps from the lower to the upper housing complexes. These were well connected by a staircase and have an incredible system of decorative fountain structures, surrounded by lots of agriculture terraces, amazing engineering, and architecture. Until Wiñayhuayna, you will be on a fascinating path (that is a narrow Inca paved pathway with no protection over the edge). This path is not recommended for people with a fear of heights. On this path, you will get spectacular views of valleys, mountains and Incan sites everywhere. The Wiñayhuayna will be our lunch spot, carried by our porters, and then we continue on to the next part that is quite a bit easier and very beautiful. The flora and wildlife that surround our next path is fascinating and gives you the chance to see the famous speckled bear and orchids in this 1:20-hour hike. At the sun gate, we will get the first view of the city of Machu Picchu. Here we will spend much time taking pictures of the panorama flora, fauna and of Machu Picchu. We then take a bus to our hotel in Aguas Calientes town. At night, we will enjoy dinner and get some rest for tomorrow’s early rise to start the Machu Picchu Trekking tour.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
"Our guides Reuben, Marco and Celia were great. They took care of everything. I enjoyed the conversation and learning about their country. I liked the food and think the meals were well rounded. The hotels were clean and accommodating. Good team. I’d book with them again."
SEAN S., DENVER CO
"Awesome leadership, great preparation, outstanding food, a new adventure at every turn and....the contrast from 14000 ft. peaks to jungle canopy was what brought it all together....two worlds, one civilization, new friendships, and lots of fun. We'll be back!"
LOUIS C., SCOTTSDALE AZ
"One final note - over the four days, one couldn't help looking over at the other groups of trekkers, observing and even chatting with along the trail. From groups of 2 to what looked like other groups of 30+ people, I don't think I found any group that was as well looked after as our group. You can stop looking now - go ahead and book with Guiding Peru."
RICHARD C., ALBERTA CALGARY CANADA
